Small teaser for a short story coming soon. If you want more, let me know!
The rain pelted Marie in the face. It was bone chilling cold as it ran down her cheeks. Her eyes closed still form the traumatic blow. The throbbing was still echoing in the back of her head. Blood rolled down to the ends of her black hair as the memories of her life flashed before her eyes. She thought to herself that she was about to die. The light was starting to fade from behind her eyelids. Was it the street lights growing dimmer? Or was it her? She didn't know.
As Marie started to fade, so did the pain that had been so unbearable not just ten minutes ago. Why had she even come here tonight? She didn't remember. All she could remember was the worrisome face of Maddy when she had told her goodbye. This had been something she had to do. Something that was important. Life saving. What was it?
Marie could not feel the cold pavement anymore. It had drifted away as well. The surroundings didn't matter anymore. Dangerous for her to deem it so unimportant, but she couldn't focus.
“Come back safe, Marie. Be careful.” Maddy said to Marie before she walked out of the door. It ran in her mind like a broken record. Spinning and spinning. “Come back…”
“I’m so sorry, Maddy. I failed. I love you. Goodbye.” Marie whispered in her mind. She choked back a sob.
